Spring cleaning isn’t just about overflowing closets and messy desks. In your leadership, patterns, beliefs and habits can creep in that hold you back rather than propel you forward. What if this spring, you not only clean your home but also your leadership?
It’s time to let go of what no longer serves you and create space for growth. Here are three quick and effective ways to refresh your leadership.
Stop waisting your energy
Which tasks, habits or meetings drain unnecessarily your time and energy?
--> Cancel at least one unnecessary meeting, task or obligation this month.
See what truly changes and how much space it creates.
Redefine your role as leader
Where are you holding on too tightly? Do you trust your team enough?
--> Make a list of your weekly tasks and choose one task that you can delegate to a team member. Set clear expectations, but leave room for their own approach. After a week, evaluate together how it went and where adjustments might be needed.
Give your team members more ownership and create space for strategic focus.
Cleaning your team dynamics
Which patterns are hindering collaboration? Pay close attention to unspoken expectations or frustrations.
--> Add a short item to the team meeting every week: "What’s working and what can be improved."
Clearly communicating expectations and briefly following up on them often makes a big difference.
Cleaning leadership is not a one-time task, but a conscious, on-going choice. By constantly asking the question, "How does this contribute to the ecosystem?" you can better distinguish between nourishing and hindering behaviors and patterns.
In short: anything that drains energy, creates toxicity within the team, or causes noise in the system, deserves attention and change.
